 Gabriel Sotelo Professor Aziz Art 3170-01 CIVIC ENGAGEMENT PROJECT El mercadito la Virgen mural Phase 1: The site The artwork I chose is called El mercadito la Virgen mural which can be located at  El Mercadito on N Lorena St & E 1st St in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. T here is so much artwork located throughout my neighborhood but this piece stood out the most. I feel that this art piece is a reflection to the Mexican culture and is a representation of what our neighborhood stands for. P hase 2: Field Work This art piece was made by Mario Torero and is an icon of a peace that can be a representation of hope for the Mexican American community of Boyle Heights. The mural was made to serve as a local community shrine. This piece was inspired by our Lady of Guadalupe, this mural is considered to be a sacred site and serves as a spiritual and cultural point for the community that gives the people of Boyle Heights a sense of pride. Silverlake is where I see more diverse artists displaying art pieces that can be political, historical or cultural. People that view the public art from different cultural backgrounds can have completely different understanding of the art price that even the artist may not have thought of. This is why I chose the Silver Lake area.

Glendale Beautification Process Cameron Valdecantos Art 3170-01 Introduction Phase 1 - The Site The place that I chose for siting is around Glendale because, anywhere I go, it is always the best place to go. This is a place where I usually live around growing up. I even want to try exploring new things I haven't seen before, like the artworks. Usually, I don't really pay attention to the different things when it comes to public art until I see the utility boxes around with all the unique art styles that are provided for the public.  Phase 2 - Field Work To start off, I want to take a look at a few artworks I selected.
